The fiber optic launch box or pulse suppressor is commonly used with OTDR testers for measuring reflections and loss measurement in fiber runs. These serve as launch cables placed between the OTDR and the near-end patch panel. The fiber optic launch box enables the tester to detect reflections from the near-end patch panel that is within the dead zone caused by the OTDR port.

Primus Cable provides single mode fiber optic launch boxes like the Fiber Pulse Suppressor Box, 9/125 Single Mode, SC/UPC. This fiber optic launch box detects breaks, shatters, or bending defects occurring within the dead zone of the OTDR. It also allows the OTDR to detect and measure loss through the patch panel connection. The fiber optic launch box should be longer than the longest pulse width setting of the OTDR used for testing.

For single mode fiber testing, Primus Cable offers the OWLTrek OTDR Singlemode 1310nm to supplement your fiber optic launch box. This OTDR tester boasts an unbeatable combination of a pocket-sized form factor, a 2.8” high-resolution color LCD display, and some of the most competitive pricing in the industry. It automatically locates events and places them in an internal event table.

Live mode allows users to expand OTDR display onto a larger laptop screen. It has full horizontal and vertical pan/zoom functions. A USB interface facilitates the download of stored readings. The rechargeable Lithium polymer battery allows up to 20 hours of normal usage.
