RG6 Cable

RG-6 Coax Cable

RG6 Coaxial Cable Overview

You want high-quality video connections. We want to help you. Our RG6 Coaxial Cable will ensure robust video signal for your CATV installations. With nearly 20 years under our belt, we supply high-quality RG6 coax cable for residential and commercial applications.

RG6/U is the most common type of cable found in CATV cable installations. It is used to route and distribute cable TV signals throughout homes and buildings. While RG59 is generally used in CCTV applications, the thicker RG6 is more than capable of doing the job. Our RG6 video cable is a 75-ohm cable and transmits at an optimum 1.5 Ghz—over double that of RG59—with minimum signal loss. Our RG6 cable meets and exceeds EIA/TIA cabling standards.

RG6 Coaxial History

RG-6/U is a common type of coaxial cable used in a wide variety of residential and commercial applications. The term "RG-6" itself is quite generic and refers to a wide variety of cable designs, which differ from one another in shielding characteristics, center conductor composition, and dielectric type. RG-6 was originally a military spec where "RG" meant Radio Guide and "6" referred to the sixth page in the Guide. Currently, the “Radio Guide” terminology is obsolete. In today’s practice, the term "RG-6" is generally used to refer to coaxial cables with an 18 AWG center conductor and 75 ohm characteristic impedance.

What is RG6 Coax Cable? What is it used for?

The most commonly recognized variety of RG-6 is cable television (CATV) distribution coax, used to route cable television signals to and within homes, and RG-6 type cables have become the standard for CATV, mostly replacing the smaller RG-59, in recent years (View our RG6 CATV Cable). CATV distribution coax typically has a copper-coated steel center conductor and a combination aluminum foil/aluminum braid shield, typically with low coverage (about 60%). RG-6 type cables are also used in professional video applications, carrying either baseband analog video signals or serial digital interface (SDI) signals; in these applications, the center conductor is ordinarily solid copper, the shielding is much heavier (typically aluminum foil/95% copper braid), and tolerances are more tightly controlled, to improve impedance stability. For any plenum applications, check out our RG6 Plenum CATV Coax Cable.

While RG6 is most commonly used for CATV applications, we do stock a CCTV RG6 with a 95% braided shield and a Siamese cable.

RG-6 cables typically are fitted with various types of connector at each end; in CATV distribution applications, these are typically F Connectors; in professional baseband video, BNC Connectors; and in consumer a/v applications other than RF and CATV, RCA Plugs.

Outdoor RG6 Coax Cable

Installers and technicians will typically have a run or two of coax ran outdoors. Because of this, we carry an RG6 Outdoor Cable that is specially jacketed for protection against the water and environmental concerns. The RG6 outdoor coax cable jacket is rated for UV protection and for direct burial. Our Outdoor RG6 Coax Cable is constructed of a 18AWG solid bare copper, providing you with excellent connectivity. The number one way to prevent signal loss and signal interference is shielding—we carry a variety of shielding constructions, including 60% braided shield, dual shield, and quad shield. The shielding on our RG6 outdoor coaxial cable ensures that you maintain excellent attenuation and maximum protection from signal interference.

Coaxial Keystone Jacks

Designed for you home theater and security alarm installations, our Coaxial Keystone Jacks give your installations performance and a professional look. Coax keystone jacks have a rectangular face and snap in tabs that fit right into your Wall Plate. They’re very simple to use. Run you coaxial cable through the wall, crimp your coaxial connector with one of our Coaxial Crimpers and plug it in.
