Collection: OM5 Multimode Fiber Optic Patch Cables

OM5 multimode fiber optic patch cables, also known as wideband multimode fiber (WBMMF), are the newest multimode standard designed for shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM). By supporting multiple wavelengths between 850nm and 953nm over a single 50/125 fiber pair, OM5 enables 40G, 100G, and emerging 400G transmission with fewer fibers than OM3 or OM4, reducing cable bulk and transceiver costs in high-density data center environments.

LC to LC Duplex OM5

LC to LC duplex OM5 patch cables pair wideband multimode fiber with the compact LC connector for SFP, SFP28, and QSFP transceivers in spine-leaf and top-of-rack switch architectures. With UPC polish and an OFNR riser-rated jacket, these cables are backward compatible with OM3 and OM4 installations, allowing data centers to upgrade link speeds without replacing existing fiber plants.

OM5 vs OM4

OM5 builds on OM4's 50-micron core with extended bandwidth in the 850-953nm range, enabling SWDM technology to carry four wavelengths simultaneously. This allows a single OM5 duplex link to support 40G and 100G using SWDM4 transceivers, where OM4 would require multiple fiber pairs or parallel optics. For new data center builds planning for 400G and beyond, OM5 provides additional headroom while maintaining full compatibility with existing multimode infrastructure.
