OM5 Multimode Bulk Fiber Optic Cables

OM5 Wideband Multimode Bulk Fiber Optic Cable, also known as wideband multimode fiber (WBMMF), supports shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) across multiple wavelengths between 850nm and 953nm. This allows a single OM5 duplex pair to carry 40G, 100G, and emerging 400G transmission, reducing fiber count and transceiver costs in high-density data center environments. Primus Cable offers OM5 bulk fiber in a tight buffer duplex construction with plenum-rated OFNP jacket and Corning fiber.

OM5 Construction & Specifications

Our OM5 bulk fiber is available in a tight buffer duplex configuration with a 2.0mm PVC jacket and OFNP plenum rating for indoor installations. The lime green jacket provides easy identification per industry color standards. Each duplex cable features bend-tolerant Corning fiber with UL Listing, RoHS compliance, and Made in USA certification. The tight buffer design allows for direct connector termination without fan-out kits.

Backward Compatibility

OM5 fiber maintains full backward compatibility with OM3 and OM4 installations, allowing data centers to upgrade link speeds without replacing existing multimode infrastructure. For new builds planning for 400G and beyond, OM5 provides additional bandwidth headroom while using the same 50/125 core size and LC connector interfaces.
