Fiber Optic Patch Cords are short distance fiber optic cables capped with connectors at both ends in order to facilitate the connection between devices within a limited distance. Fiber Patch Cables are commonly used with patch panels, optical switches, and/or telco equipment. There are different types of fiber employed, such as single mode and multimode variations. Available connectors are LC, SC, or ST with PC, UPC, and APC polish types.

Single Mode

Single Mode 9/125 (OS2) fiber optic cables are used for single mode applications intended to run long distances due to the low rate of attenuation that results from the single projected light source. Ideal for indoor as well as outdoor applications, this fiber cable will reach distances of up to 10km (6.21371 miles) at 1310 (wavelengths).

Multimode

Multimode 62.5/125 (OM1) fiber optic cables have the largest fiber core. The advantage stems from the increased number of light sources transmitting information, ensuing in a higher rate of attenuation in contrast with single mode fiber. Consequently, multimode cables are generally used for short distance applications. Multimode 50/125, 10 Gig (OM3), with similar specs to Multimode OM1 fiber optic cable, has improved glass clarity as well as speed over OM1, being capable of 10 Gig+ speeds of up to 300 meters (984.252 ft). Multimode 50/125, 10 Gig (OM4) is capable of 10 Gig+ speeds up to 400 meters (1,312.34 ft).
