The Registered Jack (the RJ45) Modular Plug is a standardized interface for data networking. The 8 position, 8 contact (the 8P8C) is the standardized RJ45 configuration, and the most common type of Plug for Ethernet networking. An important aspect to note is that male modular connectors are called Plugs, while female connectors are Jacks.
