Choosing your Gauge
Choosing The Right Gauge
Gauge, the thickness of the wire, matters significantly when installing cable that stretches across a long range in your residential home or commercial property. Generally, higher gauge wire will create more resistance for the audio signal because the signal has a narrower path to travel. The more resistance a digital audio signal encounters, the more the signal will degrade, leading to poorer audio quality. To solve this, purchasing and installing the appropriate wire will ensure high-quality digital audio delivered throughout your property. The chart below shows the recommended lengths based on the impedance of the electrical device you are connecting.
Recommended Length/Gauge Ratio
| Gauge/Speaker | 4 Ohms | 6 Ohms | 8 Ohms |
| 18 Gauge | 16ft | 24ft | 32ft |
| 16 Gauge | 24ft | 36ft | 48ft |
| 14 Gauge | 40ft | 60ft | 80ft |
| 12 Gauge | 60ft | 90ft | 120ft |
Waterproofing Types
Gel Filled
PetroleumBased Waterproofing Solution
Gel-filled direct burial cabling is a great solution to your entertainment installation if you want to make sure the cables you purchase last through years of seasonal weather changes, moisture, pests, and short-term temperature shifts. Should cracks or gashes develop on the cable's outer jacket, the gel can seal them up, providing a barrier of protection between the environment and the copper wiring.
Tape Shielding
Multiple Layer-Based Waterproofing Solution
Utilizing multiple layers of dry waterproof tape to ensure a substantial level of waterproofing. Each individual is wrapped in PET with a layer of Mylar shielding wrapped around the entire bundle. These layers protect and shield the audio cables from weather conditions similar to the gel-filled cable solutions.

Banana Connectors
Banana plugs make wall speaker installations a breeze. They are designed for use with amplifiers or wall speakers that use traditional binding posts. Banana plugs make it much easier to plug into your receiver or speakers system and they prevent the wires from being exposed, which reduces the risk of wear and tear, preventing loss of sound quality.
Pin Connectors
Spade connectors are almost exclusively used with binding posts. They provide the same features as the former two connectors but allow for an external connection to the speaker system or amplifier.
Spade Connectors
Pin connectors work with spring-loaded terminals (also known as spring clips), but they can also work with binding posts that have a hole in the side of the inner connector. This connector also reduces wear and tear on the end of the speaker wires, thus preventing loss of sound quality.
