AFL (America Fujikura Ltd.) was formed on November 28, 1984, by Alcoa Securities Corporation (ASC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), and Fujikura Ltd., a corporation organized and existing under the laws of Japan. AFL was created to manufacture fiber optic ground wire (entrance cables for sale to the public utility industry) at its Duncan, SC, facility. In 2005, Fujikura assumed 100% ownership of AFL and moved AFL's headquarters to Duncan, SC.
As a subsidiary of Fujikura, AFL is now part of a company with a long history and record of success in the communications industry. Fujikura has been in business over 130 years and is one of the oldest manufacturers of cables and wires in Japan. Throughout Fujikura's history, telecommunications has been a core business making significant contributions to Fujikura’s growth.
In 1869, the first cable installation was completed between a lighthouse and a courthouse for a telegraph station in Yokohama City, Japan. Approximately seven years later, the first electric lights were powered by electricity in Japan.
Fujikura's long history started at almost the same time as the origin of the telegraph and electricity. The history of Japanese cable also began with Fujikura over 130 years ago.
AFL Fiber Optic Cable Indoor Distribution Riser & Plenum
Plenum: Indoor Tight Buffered cables are specified for campus network cabling between buildings where interbuilding lengths are short enough that the installer can recognize savings from the lower costs of terminating tight buffered cables.
Riser: AFL Ruggedized Indoor Riser Breakout Cable is suited for applications requiring a high performance fiber optic cable. Water-blocked and reinforced with all-dielectric strength members within the core, this cable can withstand the rigors presented by higher end installations. Available in 2 - 12 fiber counts, these cables feature a UV and Fungus-Resistant semi-pressure extruded outer jacket. Individual sub-units measure 2.5mm, allowing for ease of field termination. Sub-units are also water-blocked adding to the overall protection of the fiber optic components from environmental damage.

AFL Armored Fiber Optic Cable Indoor Distribution
Armored Tight Buffered CPC Cables incorporate 4 to 144 fiber count CPC cables in a jacketed, aluminum interlocking armor. Jacketed aluminum interlocking armor provides the best balance of ruggedness, flexibility, and low weight. Flame rated armored cables with no outer jacket and flame rated armored cables with steel interlocking armor are also available. Interlocking armor can also be used with other types of trunk cables, including Indoor/Outdoor Distribution, Breakout and Premise MicroCore®.

AFL Armored Fiber Optic Cable Indoor/Outdoor
AFL now offers high fiber count Indoor/Outdoor Plenum Cables. Designs are based on water-blocked 12-fiber sub-units that are helically stranded to provide sub-unitized cables ranging from 36 to 72 fiber counts. These cables are OFNP listed for indoor and indoor/ outdoor applications. Both the sub-unit jackets and outer sheath contain a UV stabilizer and anti-fungus protection for use in outdoor applications. Sub-units contain a water-swellable aramid and 12 tight buffered fibers.

AFL FASTConnect® Field-Installable Connectors
FASTConnect are factory pre-polished, field-installable connectors that completely eliminate the need for hand polishing in the field. Proven mechanical splice technology ensuring precision fiber alignment, a factory pre-cleaved fiber stub and a proprietary index-matching gel combine to offer an immediate low loss termination to either single-mode or multimode optical fibers. FAST Connectors are compatible with 250 µm and 900 µm optical fibers, as well as 4.8 mm (SC only) cordage. All primary fiber types are supported, and each connector is color coded per industry standard requirements to aide in identification during and after installation. A factory-installed wedge clip (included with each connector) is removed and discarded upon completion of the termination. Incorporated into this device is an innovative, translucent wedge enabling the use of a common VFI to provide a "pass/fail" signal once physical contact is achieved.

AFL Adapter Plates add versatility to the AFL's panel product line. Adapter plates are compatible with industry standard platforms allowing for easy upgrades of existing panels. Adapter Plates come preloaded and are available in 6, 8, and 12 pack versions, and are available in virtually any adapter configuration.

AFL Wall Mount Interconnect Enclosure
AFL's wall mount interconnect enclosures provide a convenient convergence point for interconnecting and/or splicing in wall mount applications. Provisioned for up to two LGX compatible adapter plates or optical modules, the enclosure features a well-engineered solution for fiber and cable management on both the ingress and egress openings of the enclosure. Robust steel construction ensures the highest level of protection for sensitive components while integrated roll-formed hinges eliminate possible fiber pinch points when installing or servicing components within. The wall mount interconnect enclosures feature discrete access doors for provider and customer access which are independently lockable with a common pad-lock or tube-style key lock.

The Fiber Fan-out Kit, 900um Tubing come pre-configured for either 6 or 12 strand fiber applications, with 900 micron lengths of tubing in industry appropriate color scheme. With a factory pre-polished ferrule, its innovative field-termination process eliminates polishing, adhesives, and crimping in the field using the FuseConnect Installation Kit.
FuseConnect utilizes a fusion splicer to terminate a connector in the field, addressing return loss concerns present in analog optical networks.
